Embedded and maker hardware specialist Seeed Studio has announced the launch of a new asset-tracker development kit, designed specifically for use with Amazon’s Sidewalk low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) — offering, the company says, indoor and outdoor tracking plus easy expansion with external sensor modules.
“At Seeed Studio, we’re always on a mission to make cutting-edge technologies easier and more accessible. That’s why we’re excited to introduce this LPWAN Asset Tracker Dev Kit for Amazon Sidewalk based on our Wio Tracker 1110, designed to simplify how you build indoor and outdoor tracking solutions on the emerging Amazon Sidewalk network,” Seeed’s Keang Loday writes of the company’s launch. “This new open source kit empowers you to do that faster, and with less complexity.”

The development board, which is based on Seeed Studio’s existing Wio Tracker 1100, is built around a Semtech LR1110 transceiver and Nordic Semiconductor nRF52840 system-on-chip. These offer the shorter-range Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and longer-range LoRa and frequency-shift keying (FSK) required for connection to Amazon’s Sidewalk network — launched back in 2019 as a way to provide connectivity in areas where cellular and Wi-Fi can’t reach, boosted by Amazon’s smart home devices and dedicated nodes like the Sidewalk Bridge Pro.
The board uses a combination of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) radios for indoor and outdoor location tracking, and includes an on-board temperature sensor, humidity sensor, and a three-axis accelerometer — a sensor payload which can be easily expanded using its Grove headers.

“As IoT continues to evolve, networks like Amazon Sidewalk will play a crucial role in enabling new infrastructure and connecting devices,” Loday claims. “With our comprehensive qualification and the support of our Sidewalk test kit, we are excited to help developers leverage the power of Amazon Sidewalk in their tracking solutions.”
The development board is now available to order on Seeed Studio’s web store, priced at $30.90; at the time of writing, Amazon’s Sidewalk network was only available in the US.
